The Works on Dalton Road have teamed up with local primary schools to create an incredible community window display ready for Dino Day.
Dino Day returns to Barrow town centre on Saturday 16th May, organised by Barrow BID and supported by town centre businesses, Barrow Town Council and University of Cumbria. The event sees local businesses come together to create a day of prehistoric fun, with dinosaurs roaming the town centre and free activities for all ages.
Creating showstopping window displays for the event each year, The Works has embraced the fun of Dino Day since the very beginning. This year’s window display goes one step further, including artwork from Barrow Island Community Primary School and Newton Village Academy. Store manager, Jodie Harkins, reached out to the schools with the aim to create a window that celebrates the creativity of young Barrovians and gives them the opportunity to be part of a celebrated event in the town centre.
Jodie said “We always go all out for Dino Day, but this year we wanted to celebrate our favourite customers - the children who visit us for art supplies and dinosaur books, and who excitedly tell us how much they’re looking forward to seeing the dinosaurs on Dino Day.”
Dino Day is the busiest day of the year for The Works, attracting even more customers than any day during the Christmas period. Visitors flock to the shop for dinosaur themed balloons, toys and gifts, with the Barrow store specially curating its range of prehistoric products for the much loved annual event. They’re hoping that this year will be no different, with the eye-catching window display drawing visitors inside.
The window display includes artwork from all ages, with all primary school years taking part. Barrow Island Year 6 teacher, Mrs McVea-Roberts, said “Our Bazi pupils loved creating dinosaur art for Dino Day and are looking forward to seeing their pieces displayed in The Works window. The work shows their developing skills from Pre-School to Year 6, including mixing tints and shades, pencil drawing, printing and using oil pastels and silhouettes. We even tried stained glass and origami! We hope everyone enjoys seeing it as much as we enjoyed creating it. Roarrr!”
With dozens of handmade dinosaur creations now filling the shop window, the display is a celebration of Dino Day and the creativity and community spirit of local young people.
Dino Day returns to Barrow town centre on Saturday 16th May, promising another roar-some day of family fun, entertainment and prehistoric surprises.
