Barrow BID understands that car parking costs in town centres can sometimes be a barrier to visiting, shopping, and spending time in Barrow Town Centre. To help address this, we launched the ‘Free After 3’ parking scheme.

The scheme offers free parking at Whittaker Street car park after 3pm, providing convenient access to the lower end of Dalton Road and Barrow Town Centre.

The aim of Free After 3 parking in Barrow is to encourage more visitors into the town later in the day, including people visiting straight from work, those combining late afternoon shopping with an evening meal, coffee or drink, and visitors choosing to stay in Barrow for longer.

Originally introduced as a six-month trial in December 2016, the scheme has proved highly successful and has been extended multiple times. It will now continue as part of our second term until at least August 2026.

Look out for the Free After 3 signage at Whittaker Street car park, Barrow-in-Furness, and take advantage of free evening parking in the town centre.
