Barrow Does Comics artists donate work for upcoming charity auction

Top comic artists have donated one-off seagull artwork for local charity auction “What the Flock?”.

Barrow Does Comics guest artists Charlie Adlard, Sean Phillips, Michael Lark, Sarah Jane Docker, Lyndon White, Jordana Globerman and Young Comics Laureate Mollie Ray all created original artwork featuring seagulls to donate for the upcoming auction. 

Hundreds of seagull inspired artworks are set to ‘wing’ their way into The Dock Museum and The Bridge on Portland Walk this April, where exhibitions and a silent auction will take place. Comic artists’ work will be featured at The Bridge.

The auction is raising funds for two volunteer-led organisations, Artworks Art4All CIC and North West Blood Bikes (Lancs & Lakes). Both are run by dedicated teams of volunteers and make a meaningful difference in the community.

Artworks supports mental health and wellbeing through art based projects, delivering creative workshops and opportunities for people in Barrow. North West Blood Bikes (Lancs & Lakes) provides a vital service, transporting urgent blood, samples, donor breast milk and other essential medical items between NHS hospitals.

Sharon Tait, Artworks Art4All director, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the artists who attended Barrow Does Comics for creating and generously donating original pieces to the auction. With support from local organisations, artists, members of the public, and now internationally renowned comic artists, we hope to raise vital funds for both Artworks and North West Blood Bikes.”

Comic inspired seagulls include a zombified gull by Charlie Adlard, best known for his work on The Walking Dead, and a newspaper reading gull by Barrovian illustrator Sarah Jane Docker. The artists hope their contributions will provide meaningful support to both organisations.

“What the Flock?” Exhibitions & Auctions run from 22nd April-3rd May at The Dock Museum and 25th April-2nd May at The Bridge, Portland Walk.
