Small business celebrates 12 months of a big change

July 27, 2026

Flicker - Handmade by Lisa is celebrating 12 months in their Duke Street premises, following a move from Barrow Market last year.

Lisa began her business in Barrow Market Hall, becoming known for her perfumes, bath bombs and beauty products. However, the market’s move to The Mall made it clear to Lisa that she needed more space to expand the business and take the next steps she’d always dreamed of.

Finding a premises on Duke Street, the shelves were soon filled with handmade products. Every candle, bath bomb and wax melt (amongst many other products!) is made in the store, with Lisa offering her expert knowledge on skincare and the science behind her makes.

With the extra space to create also came the space to expand into another venture - workshops. Identifying a need for quality activities in Barrow for both children and adults, Lisa quickly began running parties and workshops in the new space.

To date, she has hosted 13 kids birthday parties, 33 kids workshops, plus 4 adult workshops. The expansion into events has allowed her to support other local businesses, teaming up with Carriola Deli to provide their signature grazing boards and snack boxes for workshop participants.

By hosting workshops, Lisa gives her customers the opportunity to switch off and create, offering something truly unique to do in the town centre. The Summer holidays are packed with brand new workshops, from mug decorating for all ages to an adult’s paint and sip night painting ceramic cowboy boot vases.

Lisa said: "I am incredibly grateful to Barrow BID for believing in my business and supporting my move from The Mall to my premises on Duke Street. Their encouragement and support gave me the confidence and opportunity to expand, and it's been one of the best decisions I've made.

Having the extra space has allowed me to introduce children's and adult workshops, which have become one of the most rewarding parts of my business. Seeing people of all ages come together to be creative, learn new skills and enjoy themselves is something I genuinely love.

I wouldn't have been able to grow in this way without the support of Barrow BID, and I'm so thankful for everything they've done to help my business flourish."

Making the move to a bigger premises may be a risk for any small business, but it’s clear it was what Lisa needed to grow Flicker. We look forward to seeing what the next 12 months brings!
