Sarah Roberts - Furness Building Society

Business you represent:

Furness Building Society

How long have you worked/had a business in the Town Centre?

I’ve worked in the Town Centre for 25 years. I started with RF Miller & Co. Accountants, which was really rewarding as we had great relationships with a number of other town centre clients. I then worked for Ross Estate Agencies, James Fisher & Sons Plc., BAE Systems and finally as Treasurer of Furness Building Society.

Why did you get involved with Barrow BID?

I am a passionate Barrovian (Walneyite!) with a keen interest in local history and in preserving our proud town for generations to come. I have always visited and supported the town centre and can clearly see the real and exciting benefits that Barrow BID is delivering for local businesses and the wider community.

Favourite BID event or project?

Dino Day. We first started going when my eldest son (now 11) was in his “dinosaur phase,” and it has since become a much-loved annual family event. I now also have a toddler who thoroughly enjoys stomping and roaring his way around the town centre!

Tell us something most people wouldn't know about you?

I performed on national breakfast television at the age of six in a daily keep-fit segment. I have also spoken to King Charles, who once accused me of pretending to revise for my university finals!
