New academy and summer league aim to boost women’s darts in Barrow

May 26, 2026

Barrow Bullseye Club’s summer darts league is back, with organisers hoping to encourage more women to get involved.

Now in its second year, the premier league was created to fill the gap during the summer months when there is no other darts competition taking place in Barrow.

The league is open to men, women and children of all abilities, with its elite division made up of the top four players from local competitions alongside players who earn their place through a qualifying event. The event is growing, with the Junior league being split this year into two by age group, as more and more young people develop their skills and an interest in the game.

This year, Barrow Bullseye Club is hoping to grow the event and increase the prize fund even further. Last year’s winner took home £660, with all sponsorship money and donations contributing to the prize pot. Alongside the cash prizes, winners also receive trophies which are displayed in the shop throughout the year. Last year’s competition also featured a set of signed darts from legendary Dutch player Michael van Gerwen as part of the prizes.

Their sponsorship packages give businesses the opportunity to support the growing event while gaining valuable exposure, with the main league sponsor promoted throughout the eight week competition across the club’s social media channels and at the event itself. Main sponsors are also invited to attend the final and present the prizes, giving them the chance to be part of the league’s success firsthand.

With sponsorship of the women’s league starting from just £300, director Polly Labo hopes that securing sponsorship will enable them to continue growing the women’s darts scene in Barrow, saying “We want to encourage more women and girls to get involved, especially as we open the new academy. Darts is a great way to meet new people and be part of a community, and we want to create an environment where everyone feels welcome to give it a go.”
