What’s your favourite Barrow BID event?
My favourite event has to be the Soapbox, mainly because I get to create loads of foam and bubbles, which always goes down a treat! That said, every event brings something different, and it’s been brilliant to be involved in so many of them. From helping deliver events to supporting the ongoing work in the town centre, including tidying up and installing new planters, it’s all about making Barrow a more vibrant and welcoming place.
Why did you get involved with Barrow BID?
I first got involved back in 2020 as a volunteer, helping clean up the town and support community events. Since then, that journey has grown into being part of the BID team, which I’m really proud of.
I’m passionate about improving Barrow, supporting local businesses, and helping create a town centre people can feel proud of. More recently, I’ve also been heavily involved in the Grow in Furness project, helping transform a large space into a thriving community growing area that will support sustainability, education, and community wellbeing for years to come.
Tell us something most people wouldn’t know about you?
Most people don’t realise my feet are actually one size smaller than Paul, the BID Manager, I’m a size 14 and he’s a size 15! He might have the edge on height too, but at 6ft 4”, I’m not far behind.
I’ve also recently lost an incredible 8 stone, which I’m really proud of.
Having been a business owner for many years, I fully understand the challenges businesses face day-to-day, which is something I bring into my role when supporting our local business community.
