Which business do you represent?
I am the stewardess of the Barrow Labour Club, Cavendish St but feel my role is one of representing the wider night-time economy. I am in regular contact with other licensees as I am the coordinator of the Barrow bar-watch scheme.
How long have you worked in the town centre?
I have been at the Labour Club for 20 years
Why did you get involved with Barrow BID?
The town centre does not shut down at 6pm when the shops and offices empty. I felt someone needed to reflect that and give a voice to the night-time economy. The pubs and restaurants have an important role to play in the vibrancy of the town centre. I am Barrovian born and bred and proud of my town. If I can help make it a little better then I see that as time well spent.
Favourite BID event?
That was the comedy pub crawl. What started out as 50 strangers going round the various licensed premises together ended up at the end of the evening with 50 friends enjoying the company of each other and a laugh together. That is the type of event we should be looking to promote in order to get people back into the town centre when normality resumes.
Tell us something most people wouldn’t know about you?
I have two daughters, two granddaughters, and one grandson. Its tough for most of us in the lockdown but to be able to see and speak to my family with the help of technology make it a bit easier.
The present Coronavirus restrictions has had a dramatic effect on all businesses but the night-time economy has been especially hard hit and will continue to feel the effects long after other enterprises have got back on some sort of even keel. We need to grasp this as an opportunity to rethink how we do things and attract customers back to the town centre drinking and eating venues – when restrictions allow.
