Barrow Park Leisure Centre helps people start their health and wellbeing journey with a day of celebrations

September 15, 2026

Barrow Park Leisure Centre is welcoming the community for a full day of free activities and events to mark National Fitness Day on Wednesday 16th September.

Aiming to make getting active feel as accessible and welcoming as possible, the leisure centre has arranged a packed schedule of free gym sessions, fitness classes, swim sessions, gym challenges and prize draws, with plenty for visitors to get involved with during the day.

Realising cost can be a barrier to accessing fitness facilities, the leisure centre are hoping by offering these free opportunities it will give people the chance to try a class, go for a swim, or simply come in and see what’s available.

Raven Trigo, marketing executive for Barrow Forward, said: "We want National Fitness Day to feel genuinely open to Barrow. You don't have to already be fit, know your way around a gym or commit to a membership to take part. The whole point is to make that first step easier.”

To support residents going forward, anyone who signs up for a 3 month membership with Barrow Park Leisure Centre on National Fitness Day will receive 50% off, giving them the opportunity to continue looking after their health and wellbeing after the day ends. Raven said: "If somebody leaves having found an activity they enjoy, or feeling more confident about becoming active, then the day has achieved something meaningful.”

Community organisations and health services will also be in attendance, giving residents an opportunity to drop in and learn about wider resources and support available in the local area. The cafe will also be offering 15% off food and drinks for the day, encouraging people to make a day of it and access as many different activities and events as possible.

Open to participants of all ages, abilities and fitness levels, classes are now available to book on Barrow Park Leisure Centre’s website.
