A Barrow town centre salon is celebrating an incredible milestone after reaching 62 years in business.
Ken Riley has been a fixture of the town for more than six decades, building a reputation for quality and a strong sense of community. Founded by Ken Riley, the salon continues to thrive under the leadership of manager Sarah, who is carrying forward his legacy while helping the business evolve.
Although Ken has stepped back from the daily running of the salon, he remains closely involved, offering advice and sharing his wealth of experience as Sarah introduces new ideas and services.
One of the salon’s greatest strengths is its loyal and dedicated team. Several staff members have been part of the Ken Riley family for between 30 and 50 years, creating a welcoming atmosphere that clients notice as soon as they walk through the door.
“Without the team, we are nothing,” said Sarah, highlighting the importance of the close knit team who have helped shape the salon’s success over the years.
The business is also committed to investing in the future, employing apprentices who are developing their skills under the guidance of some of the industry’s most experienced professionals.
Three years ago, the team expanded their offering with the opening of Sarean, located just next door. The addition has allowed the business to provide a wider range of beauty treatments and services, ensuring it continues to meet the changing needs of its clients.
For Sarah and the team, the secret to their longevity lies in community over competition. The salon actively supports neighbouring businesses and has built strong friendships with other hairdressers and barbers across the town centre.
Looking ahead, Sarah hopes to carry on Ken’s legacy. “Ken got it to 60 years,” she said. “Hopefully I’ll get it to 100 for him.”
